Reading reviews was very helpful to me when deciding to spend $700 for a double stroller... so I'm adding my 2 cents about the Baby Jogger City Select, hope it's helpful to someone.
I have a 19 month old and a 2 month old - hence the need for the double. Also, our primary family vehicle is a Buick Enclave and we specifically wanted a stroller that would fit in the cargo area WITH the 3rd seat up. There's not a lot of space...
I first looked at side-by-side doubles. These were nixed because of the weight difference between my kids. I tried many and even bought a cheap used one from Craigslist, but because of the 20 lb weight difference, no matter which ones I tried, they all pulled towards the side my 19 month old was sitting on. Even when I had the car seat adapter added and had the 2 month old and car seat, they all still pulled. This probably wouldn't have been an issue once the little one reaches a year and the weight difference is not so big. But I didn't want to have to compensate when pushing them around that long. Also, I took my $20 Craiglist find out and about and found that I really didn't like the "double wide" it was harder for me to navigate between aisles and cramped shopping places than a tandem.
That led me to look at tandems. All of the inexpensive tandems, Gracco, Chicco, etc... are TANKS when folded. None would fit in the Enclave. So we started looking at high end strollers.
I narrowed it down to the Phil & Teds, Britax B-Ready, and the BJ City Select.
B-Ready would not fit in the Enclave w/o taking off the wheels and was still very big and heavy, so it was nixed.
I read a lot and was also told by 2 different sales clerks that Phil & Teds wheels have problems with separation from the rims. Also with the car seat adapter, my older one would always have to sit in the rumble seat and the rumble seat only hold 33 lbs... my 19 month old is 32 lbs so he'd outgrow quickly and my new one would need to stay in the main seat.
So we went with City Select, 2011, Amethyst.
So far, I am loving my City Select and it was the right choice for us. I won't repeat all of the pros, but the major ones are:
* Super easy to remove seats and fold then fits easily with room to spare in the Enclave
* HUGE easily accessible storage basket - I love my storage basket and use it a lot.
* Great handling and good turn radius
* Purple color is still different and trendy but doesn't show stains
Cons:
* I bought the Parent Console accessory - seems to be useless. With 2 seats in place, you can't put a tall cup into it at all with the top seat reclined and even with top seat straight up, it's very tight. Don't waste the $30. There is a mesh pocket on the back of both seats, this works fine for keys, phone, beverage bottle etc. If you have to have a cup holder, get a cup holder attachment.
* When my 19 month old is in front, I do feel the weight making it a little harder to make sharp turns. When my baby is a little older I plan to switch them and put her in front to see if this helps. When it's just the 19 month old as a single stroller, this is not a problem at all.
I would very highly recommend this stroller. it is well worth the money. I wish I had bought it as my 1st stroller because I knew going into parenthood that I wanted my babies very close in age.
Shop around. I purchased from Peppyparents.com. Free Shipping, no tax, and when I emailed them prior to purchase, I asked for any additional discounts and they gave 10%... that was $60 and enough to pay for the Chicco car seat adapter. I found that most places won't discount BJ products... seems this is a no-no from the manufacturer.
